Legacy of Love

Well, this post is two days late, but things have been a little busier in the Horton home this week :)

June 26, 1982 at 2:30 pm Eddie and Ruth Smith exchanged vows and sealed their love with a kiss. Now 30 years later they have displayed God's faithfulness and compassion in their daily lives while showing it to each other. In just 30 years so much has happened...
They have two daughters, a son in law,  and now two grandsons.  They have been serving at Faith Christian Academy for twenty-six of those years, and made a difference in many lives including mine.
Daddy and Momma thank you for the example of a faithful marriage you have demonstrated.  Happy Belated 30th Anniversary. I love you and am so proud of you.

Announcing Elliot Christian Horton

Joshua and I are thrilled to announce the birth of Elliot Christian Horton on June 22, 2012 at 2:01 pm.  Weighing in at 7 pounds, 3 ounces, and 18.5 inches long.  We are just overjoyed at our second little miracle and his big brother Ethan Nathanael.  We are so blessed, and our God is good all the time!  Thank you for your prayers during this amazing adventure...more details to come in a not so distant future post!

Here are a some pictures from the weekend since one is "worth a thousand words."

More Father's Day Wishes

There are two more special men in my life whom I'd like to wish a long distance Happy Father's Day. To my wonderful, amazing Daddy in North Carolina and to my Granddaddy in Heaven.

I wish we could see you more often, and we think about you alot.  Thank you for your prayers and support as we follow God's will! I am so thankful for our phone conversations where you fill me in on what's happening in Goldsboro and then listen as I give you the down load from here. Our talks make me feel that much closer to you.  You have been a great example of my Heavenly Father's love and your calm steadfastness is an inspiration to me. I love you and miss you, but am grateful we get to see you in just a couple more weeks :) So until then pretend I'm giving you a really big hug and know that I would do it myself if I could!  Thank you for also being an awesome Papa to Ethan and soon to Elliot.  Ethan is literally going to have a ball playing with you soon.

Happy 2nd Father's Day

As my husband I respect you For the way you serve our Lord As a Father I admire you For the way you train our son
You place our needs above your own You display a life of sacrifice I see in you great wisdom shown In how you guide our family.
Our Ethan watches you so earnestly He wants to be like you in every way If he were to walk in your steps daily He would also be following Jesus.  So My Love with all of my heart I wish you Happy Father's Day!

Rocky Point Lighthouse VBS Recap

We praise the Lord for each child and volunteer who participated in VBS 2012 this Wednesday through Friday!  As well as for a successful Sunday Celebration in last night's service followed by a cook out, games, and a pinata.  We are so proud of our kids who learned alot about Shining God's Light (which is helping others and telling them of God's love) this week.  One thing I really loved about this VBS was the projects with a purpose!  Instead of traditional take-home crafts the kids colored a sling bag, which says Jesus loves you in various languages, for children on the mission field on Wednesday night.  Thursday night they decorated a soup bag for a dry soup mix that we will donate to Mission Carthage's food pantry.  And Friday night they did make a lighthouse to take home and remind them that "The Lord lights up my darkness." (which was our theme verse from II Samuel)

Three years of Happily Ever After

*Warning this is lovey dovey and sappy*  :-)

And they lived "happily ever after."  All of my favorite princess stories growing up ended with that same line, Beauty and the Beast, the Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Thumbelina, Rapunzel, and Snow White.  Each with the similar theme of the prince and princess riding off into the sunset leaving the reader (or dvd viewer) in suspense of the rest of their story.  Well, I may not be a princess, but my favorite of all love stories is my own!  From before I was born, God was scripting the sweetest fairy tale ever; and the best part is I don't have to wonder how it turns out!  I know WHO is in control of the "Happily Ever After" which I have been already living for three wonderful years.

So like most brides, the excitement of the wedding day was magical and passed in a blur.   The one day I had "waited for my whole life" was over before I could realize it, but I do remember "riding off into the sunset" wit…

Mexican Rice & Josh the Builder

What you need: White rice, Oil, Rotel, Chicken broth, Tomato sauce, Garlic powder, Onion powder, and Cumin powder (water if needed).  My friend Diana is a wonderful cook!  She showed me how to make the rice and gave me several other great recipes while here. Her Method: (1) Brown the rice in a teaspoon of oil. (2) Once rice is browned add chicken broth, small can of tomato sauce, and three tablespoons of Rotel. (3) Let simmer and add the rest of the spices.  If needed add water so that rice is covered. (4) Allow to cook until tender and liquid has evaporated.  Do NOT stir. (5) Enjoy!
